The Kansas City Steers played in the old American Basketball League (ABL) for two seasons in the early 1960s from at Municipal Auditorium and Memorial Hall, both of which are still in use today. The Steers were the best team in the ABL, and had many of their players go on to the NBA. They went 28-12 and made the finals in the first season, losing to the Cleveland Pipers in five games. In the second season, and the league’s last, they went 22-9 before the league and team folded on December 31, 1962. The Steers were awarded the title and were the league’s only champions.
This would make a unique gift for the basketball fan in your life or a neat find for yourself of a vintage basketball team from Missouri.
